Almost anyone who has tried to lose weight knows how difficult it is to follow through and complete a diet plan. In the beginning it´s easy. We’re excited and eager to get started, and we´re convinced we´ll do it this time. The second week is still fine, but a a bit harder than the first. Still, we manage to stick with it. And then it happens: we start bending the rules and slowly slip back into our old ways. And we ask ourself: why? Why does this happen to us? Let me tell you why. We don´t have the right priorities. Somehow, we don´t feel that losing weight is important enough to really make it happen. If that´s the case, then what would be important enough to make us stick with a diet plan? I believe it isn´t our desire to lose weight, but something else instead: wanting to taking care of our health. I don´t think there´s anything else that´s more important.
The state of our health affects everything in our life. Just think about it for a moment: if our health deteriorates we are forced to change our habits. Some people need a serious accident or a life-threatening illness to change their accustomed ways. But I believe we shouldn´t wait for our bodies break down before we make the decision to look after our health. When we don´t feel well, everything we do is affected by that feeling. But if we feel full of energy, evrything we do is also improved by that. Because of this, I believe it´s important to make a healthy lifestyle our first priority in life, instead of just trying to lose some weight.
The best way to do this is to find out where your priorities are right now. Do you really value your health? How much do your habits and your lifestyle reflect the priorities of someone who values health above all else? I recently saw a film about a marathon runner aged 89, and I aksed myself, “Will I have that much energy when I´m his age, or will I be weak and ill?” I believe the things I do now and the way I live my life today will determine the answer to that question in the future. And the great thing is: if we decide to make health our first priority, then weight loss is bound to happen, almost as a side effect.
Very interesting blog. A lot of blogs I see these days don't really provide anything that attract others, but I'm most definitely interested in this one. Just thought that I would post and let you know.
